FYI: Winter Skin Care

Skin Care Favorites and Essentials

Cold, dry winter air can be very harsh. I happen to live in the Mid-Atlantic area, and here this statement holds true. Because the weather is so out of control, maintaining an even complexion can be a serious challenge! So, over time I’ve come up with a very nice daily skin care regiment that keeps my skin under control.

** I also happen to suffer from eczema and acne, and acne scarring, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from the picture above! :] My regiments and skin-care techniques have been working for me, so I want to share them with you! Following are some tips for maintaining healthy skin in the winter.

By The Season: Winter Skin Care

Wash, Tone, & Moisturize
Do you have naturally dry skin? Oily Skin? Combination skin? The key to maintaining healthy skin during the winter is finding a daily wash and tone routine that works for you! I have unpredictable combination skin, so I use very specific brands and products. Some of the health-friendly products that I use are listed below and pictured above. Other than Aveeno and Burt’s Bees, there are other great brands like Ponds, Neutrogena, and Philosophy that are health-conscious and could be great for you to use!

  • Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser
  • Burt’s Bees Toner
  • Aveeno Daily Moisturizer SPF 15

Weekly Facials and Scrubs!
Facials help to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells and bacteria. Yes, professional spa facials can be expensive, so why not make one by yourself at home? Fresh fruits (blueberries, oranges, tomatoes) and veggies (carrots, …tomatoes? XD ) can work wonders on your skin when paired well with other things, such as green tea, oatmeal, yogurt, honey, or eggs!

Go to google, and look up a face mask that you can whip together and put on in just a few minutes. There are plenty of articles and sites out there! (See? I just pulled three random articles off of the 1st page for “diy face masks“. Easy as pie.) If you see that you have everything to make any of the masks/scrubs, go ahead and put it together! Try it out! You’ll be surprised at the results. :D

More Ways to Stay Winter Healthy
You can easily protect your lips, eyes, hair, and skin from harsh winter weather.

  • Lip Balm – This is something I cannot live without. My lips shrivel and dry up in the cold so easily! Big or small lips, lip balm is easily the most necessary thing for to have on hand during the winter.
  • Eye Cream! – If you’re like me and you like to wear a lot of eye makeup, then you should use daily or nightly eye cream to restore the skin cells around your eyes. I’m hugely guilty of not investing in eye cream, but once I find one I’ll be using it daily/nightly. I’m way too young for wrinkles and my eyes are and will always be my best feature! XD Must maintain!
  • Blotting Papers – Using these save lives! (Well, not really.) But, if you have oily skin or your skin perspires often while wearing makeup, then you can use these to blot away these excess oils. This helps to prevent makeup smudges, but also keeps your bacteria-covered fingers away from your skin! Less acne breakouts FTW!!
  • Vitamins! – It is oh-so-important to take daily vitamins. Your health CRAVES them. Vitamins C, D, E, B-Complex, K, and Omega-3/Fish Oil are all great for your skin, hair, nails and other parts of you that are effected by harsh cold (or very hot) weather. These supplements help balance your system to repair and build upon a better, healthier you!
